Pasadena City College Kicks Off Month-Long Celebration of Latino Heritage

PCC to Host Virtual Events, Performances, and Exhibits Throughout September

Pasadena City College (PCC) will kick off its month-long celebration of Latino Heritage on September 15, 2023, with a virtual event featuring keynote speaker Dr. Juan C. Guerra, a nationally recognized expert on Latino culture and education. The celebration will continue throughout September with a variety of virtual and in-person events, performances, and exhibits that highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community.

“We are excited to celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of our Latino community at PCC,” said Dr. Erika Endrijonas, President of PCC. “This month-long celebration is an opportunity for our students, faculty, staff, and community members to come together and learn about the history, culture, and contributions of Latinos to our society.”

The celebration will feature a variety of events, including:

  • Virtual keynote address by Dr. Juan C. Guerra on September 15
  • Virtual panel discussion on the history of Latino education in California on September 22
  • In-person art exhibit featuring the work of local Latino artists at the PCC Art Gallery from September 15 to October 15
  • Virtual cooking demonstration featuring traditional Latino recipes on September 29
  • In-person performance by the Mariachi Garibaldi de Jalisco on September 30

The celebration is being organized by the PCC Latino Heritage Month Committee, which is made up of students, faculty, and staff from across the college. The committee is working to ensure that the celebration is inclusive and representative of the diversity of the Latino community.

“We hope that this celebration will help to raise awareness of the Latino community and its contributions to our society,” said Dr. Sylvia Alva, chair of the PCC Latino Heritage Month Committee. “We also hope that it will provide an opportunity for our students to learn about their own culture and heritage.”

The celebration is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the PCC website at www.pasadena.edu.
