Atkins talks rebuilding after disappointing end to 2022 season
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins held a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the end of the 2022 season and look ahead to 2023. The Blue Jays finished the season with a record of 92-70, good for second place in the AL East. However, they were swept by the Minnesota Twins in the AL Wild Card Series. Atkins said that he was "very disappointed" with the way the season ended, but that he is confident in the team's future. "We have a lot of young talent on this team, and I believe that we can compete for a World Series championship in the near future," Atkins said. Atkins said that the team's focus this offseason will be on improving the bullpen and adding depth to the lineup. "We need to find a way to get more consistent from the bullpen," Atkins said. "And we need to add some more power to our lineup." Atkins also said that the team is open to making a trade for a starting pitcher. "We're always looking to improve our team," Atkins said. "If there's a starting pitcher out there who can help us, we're definitely interested." The Blue Jays have a number of young players who are expected to take on bigger roles in 2023, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Alek Manoah. Atkins said that he is excited to see what these players can do next season. "I'm really looking forward to seeing what our young players can do next year," Atkins said. "I think they're going to be a big part of our success."
