NFL Draft 2023: The First Round in Review

Rounds 23 at 7 pm ET Friday and Rounds 47 at Noon ET Saturday

The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is in the books, and there were plenty of surprises. Some teams got great value with their picks, while others may have reached. Here are some quick-snap grades for all 32 teams:

Winners

Carolina Panthers: Traded up to No. 9 to select Bryce Young, who many consider to be the best quarterback prospect in the draft. Seattle Seahawks: Traded down to No. 5 and still landed C.J. Stroud, another top quarterback prospect. Philadelphia Eagles: Traded up to No. 10 to select Jalen Carter, the best defensive player in the draft.

Losers

Indianapolis Colts: Traded up to No. 4 to select Anthony Richardson, a quarterback with a lot of potential but also a lot of risk. Arizona Cardinals: Traded up to No. 3 to select Jalen Carter, who many consider to be a reach. Las Vegas Raiders: Traded down to No. 7 and still ended up with a quarterback, Derek Carr, who many consider to be a downgrade from their previous starter.

Grading the Biggest Steals and Misses

Biggest Steal: Bryce Young to the Carolina Panthers at No. 9 Biggest Miss: Anthony Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 4

Overall Thoughts

The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft was full of surprises. Some teams got great value with their picks, while others may have reached. It will be interesting to see how these players perform in the NFL, but for now, here are some quick-snap grades for all 32 teams.
